It is hard to tell what email provider is “the best” anymore. They all change so quickly, and have so many features… Many of us stay with our current provider because of the difficulty associated with making a “switchover”.

I am a Gmail user, and former Hotmail user. I had an error in my Hotmail account (having to do with a contract with my ISP) that I could not get fixed, so I dumped Hotmail and made the switch to Gmail. At first, I was a little at loss… Gmail (a year ago) was not as dynamic and seemed completely different. I used a vacation reply to make sure that everyone knew my new address, and even set Gmail up to receive email from my old Hotmail account, via pop3. Since, I have consolidated two Hotmail accounts, and one professional hosting account into my Gmail account. I absolutely love it. What’s your story? Tell us in your comment!

About Jesse Zylstra

Hey! My name is Jesse Zylstra, and I am the administrator of this website. I used to write about free software and programs, online web applications, and new technology -- especially open-source. Now I just write udder nonsense. I also play pipe organ, which I'm told is a fun and interesting fact about me. In the past, I studied network administration. Now I've been trying to pursue a real fake bachelors degree for the last, oh, 10 years or so.

I just found a completely independent privacy promoting email alternative at RiseUp.net. I can not understand why so many are willing to let Google mine and store every email they send or receive.

Have you ever heard the saying those who do not study history are destined to repeat it? How much easier do you suppose it would have been for the S.S. to round people up if they had the profiles that Google, Yahoo!, Microsoft, Facebook and many other corporations have built that let them know everyone you know, are related to, or ever correspond with.

Start paying attention to the questions they are asking you about last names, children, aunts, uncles, schools, places you've vacationed, hobbies, pet's names. They don't need multiple answers to send you your password. They only need one or they can just send it to your email address on file with them.

If you think that could never happen I recommend doing a search for IBM and the Holocaust. Check out the first result about a book that lays out their connection. Can you trust IBM? Microsoft? Yahoo!? Microsoft? What about Google? Those who don't open their eyes are placing themselves at HUGE risk.
