RIOT: Radical Image Optimization Tool (Windows)

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) is a free program which allows for easy resizing, compression, conversion, and adjustment for images. RIOT uses JPEG, GIF, and PNG formats. RIOT screenshot

This tool is a simple way to scale down an image in resolution, or to make an image smaller by adjusting quality for the web or email. It is the program that is used to scale down the images in this website.

RIOT is about 1.7mb in size and uses about 9.8mb of memory when open, making it quite fast to open and quickly use.

RIOT is completely free, but donations to the developer are welcome.

Although RIOT does convert and optimize PNG images, large images in PNG format do have some difficulty and RIOT’s memory use in these cases tends to not be very efficient.

RIOT can be used as a plugin for Irfanview and GIMP.

About Jesse Zylstra

Hey! My name is Jesse Zylstra, and I am the administrator of this website. I used to write about free software and programs, online web applications, and new technology -- especially open-source. Now I just write udder nonsense. I also play pipe organ, which I'm told is a fun and interesting fact about me. In the past, I studied network administration. Now I've been trying to pursue a real fake bachelors degree for the last, oh, 10 years or so.
