Google seems to offer everything. When was the last time you went through their entire list of online services? I honestly thought that they would have run out of things after Google Documents, a very successful and useful word processor. But, much to my dismay, they have now introduced (in BETA, invite only) Google Music.
Google Music is a music service that allows you to access all of your music from one central location. It isn’t like Pandora, where it helps you find new music and makes suggestions and whatnot. Instead, it lets you upload your music to Google’s servers — the same music you have on your computer — and lets you play it on any computer in the world. (Read more to comment)
It is cool to mess around with; however, it has a few cons. It is not available offline. You must use the web-based client, and the music stays on their servers. (You can’t download music to your computer in file-format). You also can’t, at this time, put music from Google Music onto an MP3 player either.
So, what is so great about it then?
With the current limitations, it is still great for me because I can get my music on any computer with Internet — including at my house, at the college, and other peoples computers. Google Music also loads you up with a TON of free music that is all very cool to listen to. You can choose what kinds of music you want pre-loaded, or none at all, or all of it.
I recommend all of it.
You can apply to the beta at www.google.com/music , or comment in our contest to win an invitation.
Contest:
The first four to comment “I want Google Music!” will receive invitations to Google Music.
Please indicate that you want Google Music in the text portion of the comment field, so I don’t just send the invites off to those who don’t want one.
In the comment field, leave your either name alias, and type a valid email address in the Email field of the comment form. Your email will not be displayed, or shared (except with Google for sending the invitation).
