Website Updates

Recently, the server was upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. This has resulted in faster server self-boot times (after failures) and a more stable system (Apache is already running more smoothly).

A power outage occurred last week, 20 minute outage. No manual intervention was needed for the server, automatic statup sequence had no problems. No hardware or software damage (Yay! First time in a long time there has been an outage without damage)

WP-to-Twitter plugin was removed. We are now using a web service called TwitterFeed to power our Twitter page. This has significantly increased posting speeds and stopped a majority of the scrip overload problems.

$100 was accidentally spent on Google Adwords. (I seriously had no idea they were charging me, my gift certificate was drained out and I was not notified upon switching to credit-card pay. Don’t use adwords) This resulted in a spike of about 938 visitors /month for a short period of time.

Visitor count increased to ~800 last month, and is now at ~500.

We received our first “Pay-Per-Post” paid advertisement request on the 11th of May, after reducing our requested payment price by two cents per post, and a little bit per word for each post. We continue to gain them. Come time, we will increase price-per-post.

About Jesse Zylstra

Hey! My name is Jesse Zylstra, and I am the administrator of this website. I used to write about free software and programs, online web applications, and new technology -- especially open-source. Now I just write udder nonsense. I also play pipe organ, which I'm told is a fun and interesting fact about me. In the past, I studied network administration. Now I've been trying to pursue a real fake bachelors degree for the last, oh, 10 years or so.
