“It’s just like an iPad with wheels!”
Yet another corny-named product is going to be released in the near future, the WePad. Yes, another device that is as difficult to use as a computer, but can not perform as many of the tasks that a computer can is soon to be released this next week on April 27 in Germany (will be more available to US in August, 2010). The WePad is another electronic that you’ll probably want to buy or at least secretly admire, but honestly have no use for. Still, there are a great deal of improvements over the iPad when compared, such as the open-sourcyness, the two High-Speed USB ports (greatest selling point to many), a 11.6 inch screen, 1GB of RAM, a way better processor, support for Adobe AIR, Flash, and Java — oh, and did I mention, the webcam?
These devices sure do look cool, but they can’t do anything my old Windows Smartphone could do. Sure, you can manage your calendar on it and send emails, providing you either get a 3G plan to use with it or have WiFi everywhere you go, but most of the tasks available can be done on a small laptop with a real keyboard. Business persons may find the idea of easier access to their most basic applications great, especially for scheduling appointments and getting the latest company updates. At almost $600 (no plan included), the WePad is ever-so-slightly cheaper than the iPad.
The WePad will be sold in two versions, one with 3G (as well as a slightly better screen, 32GB, and a few more features, not yet specified) and a non-3G (16GB)
