Problems with Windows Aero

Question:
Windows Aero stopped working. I have Windows Home Premium [and up] and I meet the requirements.
Why wont it work? And how do I fix it?

Before we give you the more problematic answer:
Are you running out of memory? If your RAM is almost all being used, or if you are getting errors having to do with “Windows has switched back to the Windows Basic theme” you don’t have the resources to run Aero. Disable unused background applications, and try running a virus scan.

Answer:
Chances are, the problem is occurring because Windows is failing to detect your Graphics Performance options correctly.
Go into your Graphics Card control panel (nVidia users: Right click your desktop, and click “nVidia Control Panel”)
Adjust the settings to make for better quality.
Once you have done that, go ahead and right click your “My Computer” icon (Usually located in your Start Menu, or on the Desktop)
The Experience index will probably have your old score, and say that its unrated… click it
Once the Index loads, click the Refresh button. (Or click “Update My Score”)
If it “Errors Up” don’t panic.

Now that you have done these steps:
Right click your desktop >> Click Personalize
Find the “Windows Color and Appearance” menu
Chance it to Windows Aero

What if that didn’t work?
If that didn’t work, we recommend checking out the Troubleshooter about Aero. Its here:

    1. Open command prompt In admin mode

    2. Type net stop uxsms and Enter

    3. Type net start uxsms and Enter

This helped me once.!! Though not sure what it does

I wrote that post quite a long time ago, right when Vista came out.
I think they pretty much fixed everything in SP1, and now SP2 BETA is already out (I use it, seems stable enough).
